This is an excellent site which includes hands-on-math workshops, math activities, book reviews, and seminars for mathematics teachers. These small personalized workshops are perfect for teachers of the gifted and talented, curriculum planners, administrators, mathematics coordinators and mathematics teachers.
Algebra Program--Girls to the Fourth Power
Algebra tutoring program written especially for girls. This site includes a chat room, California-style algebra problems (related to high interest topics for teens), algebra attitude page, sample problems using a "fresh approach", and a spot called K.I.S.S. (contains cool graphics that move). WARNING: While this site has high "student appeal", it does contain some profanity (I saw two words) in the fun scenarios that present problems in a unique format. It would seem that this site is produced by a consensus of both adults and students.
Junior Math Assessment Database
On this site there were strands of student performance standards. It included the traditional content areas such as numbers, space, measurement, chance, data and algebra. It included fractions, integers, order of operations, as well as countless other lesson plans.
It is geared for the middle school math. This is a lesson using the NCAA basketball finals. The objective is to have students read and interpret graphs of data sets.
MacTutor History of Mathematics Archive
Another challenge math activity. For gifted elementary and upper grades. Over 1100 biographies of mathematicians. Also articles on the development of mathematical ideas.
You will find each week a motivational problem for your students. Links to last weeks problem and solution are found plus a link to the archives of past problems. This is recommended for grades three through eight.
Colorful Mathematics is a series of educational software presenting advanced mathematical concepts to K-12 students in a game-oriented approach. History of Mathematics Archive
A cute mystery story about the Hotel Infinity introduces students to the concept of infinity. It can be done in combination with an art lesson that would provide illustrations of the hotel. Problem solving skills and critical thinking are utilized. According to the author, "infinities come in different sizes but also there are infinitely many of them."

Proportional Reasoning Lesson Plan
This site consists of six lessons, a 14 minute video, and an extension activity. Satisfies NCTM Standard 7 for grades 5-8. Purpose is to develop, analyze, explain, and use methods for solving proportions while solving problems in a variety of situations.
Spatial Sense Middle School Lesson Plan
This site has students explore the use of straight lines and angles to create an illusion of curved lines. This lesson plan emphasizes estimating and computing the circumference and area of circles. Satisfies NCTM Standard 12 for Grades 5-8.

This site offers a collection of exciting and unusual mathematics topics for elementary level through middle school level. It includes map coloring, networks, topology, infinity, and logical reasoning. It provides good integration with Language Art skills.

This site gives much information about the metric system. There are articles to read and ideas that could lead to many lessons at many grade levels. One article deals with why the United States needs to convert to the metric system. There is a cookbook with easy recipes in both measurements.
Students with Problems with Multiplication
This site is ideal for students who have a problem with multiplication. In the site it teaches the basic facts for any of the four fundamental operations of arithmetic. It is set up as a game for students who can not remember the "rules" for multiplication.
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
The NCTM News Bulletin and articles about hot topics can be found here. The list of special days and contests along with the search engine for previous issues is a great time saver.
At this site, a hands-on experiment is conducted to estimate pi by finding the area and circumference of a circle. A great pizza project is also available. References are made to the radius and diameter of the planets in our solar system as well as how to get a video entitled A Slice of Pi. An interesting history and time line of pi is also included.
Algorithms and Ice Cream for All
Small or whole group project to foster cooperation in problem solving. No one right answer to the problem. Teacher can add own limits or extensions. Level 5 and up. A good activity for Math Club or for advanced students to do on their own.
Words problems for students are presented in the website to help improve problem solving skills. Helpful hints are furnished for those students who experience difficulty. Solutions are also available for teachers with e-mail addresses if requested.

Recommended by my own student internet users, this source covers answers to math questions, quotations, unusual and important mathematical ideas, specific topics such as chaos or complex patterns or geometry or history. Also included are lists of mathematics problems and puzzles available on the internet, problems of the week and projects of the month, collaboration sites for students to solve math problems--sorted by grade level, and tricks based on math not magic.
Clever Games for Clever People
It has a collection of 15 problem-solving games using logic and numbers. These games are taken from John Conway's book, On Numbers and Games . It is suitable for adaptation for most grade levels. Games are not played on-line, unfortunately. Could be a good source for student generated games to be made and played in school or at home.
A new contest problem is listed each week. A Casio scientific calculator is given as a prize. The winners names are published. A list of past problems and winners can also be found. The difficulty level ranges from middle school to high school. Wouldn't it be fun to win and to have your name published!.
This site offers word problems on the eight grade level. The answer and a hint is available for each of the 51 problems. If you want more word problems click here. Math Detective gives the teacher 51 prepared word problems, ready to print & use in the classroom. Answers & hints are also available at the site.
The problem that is explained in the story is easy to understand, but, surprisingly, there is no simple, straightforward way to solve it. Students will find themselves experimenting with a variety of approaches.
This site contains activities related to the teaching of statistics in grades 1-12. The activities are categorized to the NCTM objectives in the statistics area. Given on the first page of the site are the objective number, the stated objective, titles of activities, authors, and a brief description . These are useable activities that are very "teacher friendly".
At this site you will find a stock market project for grades K-12. This project guides students (and teachers) through a step by step process in evaluating stocks toward the creation of an investment portfolio. The project is simple enough for lower grades but it also can be made more challenging for upper grades. Additional enrichment activities include how to read the NYSE pages and determining your chances in the lottery. A great, practical project for many levels.

This site has multiple lesson plans that are written out step by step. Elementary through high school grades. The lessons are set up to be run as a lab-type situation, mostly hands-on. Basic facts, fractions, tessellation's, and graphing are some of the lessons available. Definitely some that I will make use of in my classroom. A variety of teaching ideas and tips that can be immediately implemented into the classroom are offered in the site. Experience teachers share their expertise and teaching tips with colleagues. Grade 5 lesson plans but can easily be adjusted to higher levels. Taught in small group setting. Good resource for Middle School Math Club activities.
Provided at this site is an illustration of concept-based problem solving. The 3 R's of problem solving, Request, Response, Result, are demonstrated. Example word problems are included in algebra, chemistry, and physics. This illustrates to students how to slow down and take apart a word problem.
