All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque

 

Directions: Each student will be given a paperback copy of All Quiet on the Western Front.. It is the responsibility of each student to take good care of their book and to return it when the assignment is completed. The assignment will consist of six different assignments and the dates when each assignment is due.

SUMMARIES

Students will write a summary of the pages assigned and hand it in on the due date. The length of the assignment is two pages typed and doubled spaced or the front and back of two 8 ½ x 11 inch sheets of paper if it is handwritten. Each of the summaries will include topics that should be covered in your work. The topics will be given prior to each reading.

The summary will include the topics given and a brief overview of what is happening.

Discussion will take place that day in class and a student will receive a grade for participating in the discussion of the reading.

 

FINAL PROJECT

On Monday, March 26 the worksheet of questions on the book will be due. The worksheet will list the length of each question. Please refer to the worksheet for further information.

Directions: On a separate sheet of paper answer each of the following questions. The answers may be typed or handwritten. Be sure to read each question carefully.

  1. In three paragraphs, discuss why All Quiet on the Western Front is considered "the greatest war novel of all time". 15 points

  3. What opinion does the writer, Erich Maria Remarque, express with regards to World War I. Discuss four passages from the novel to support your answer. 20 points

 

3. Listed below is the preface to All Quiet on the Western Front. After carefully reading the preface discuss its meaning in relation to the novel. Give at least three examples from the novel to support your answer. 30 points
