Discussion of today’s agenda and distance learning. We are looking into a possible virtual field trip for a future meeting. Claudia Hartz, Community Economic Development of MVCC came to discuss dual credit, articulation agreements and bridging. Ms. Hartz encouraged everyone applying for dual credit. She explained that teachers need to be approved as adjunct faculty for dual credit and that all paperwork goes through Ms. Hartz. Class credit is limited to juniors and seniors. If you have any questions or need additional information, you can reach her at (315) 731-5752 or e-mail: chartz@mvcc.edu. Jennifer Dunn, business teacher at Adirondack High School, came to talk about the procedure she went through to create a curriculum for Business Math as a third unit of math credit. Jennifer shared the information she obtained working with the math department (math requirements, topic within Business Math to be taught and open communications with the math department). She was also extremely generous in sharing review exercises, handouts, projects and ideas she uses as well as showing various textbooks and her thoughts on using them in class. Helpful websites for Business Math: handsonbanking.com; practicalmoneyskills.com cwpub.com fordcredit.com/creditdrivesamerica We will continue, as our project for this year, to work on a Business Math curriculum for those schools interested in adding this course to their business curriculum offerings. We will have the department chair from Adirondack come into our meeting and answer some questions and address the benefits this has had on the students. We finished the day by reviewing more of the links on our Model Schools Business Education website. If anyone finds any appealing and useful sites for our site, please send them to Margaret Kuhn: mkuhn@adirondackcsd.org or bring it to our next meeting. Our next meeting will be at Adirondack High School (Room C-109) in Boonville on Friday, November 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you need directions please e-mail Margaret. Respectfully submitted: Margaret Kuhn |
