My Learning Plan User Group Meeting
My Learning Plan is a Professional Development Management and Evaluation System that offers fast and easy planning, tracking, and evaluating all forms of professional learning in one comprehensive system. In this half-day meeting, attendees will learn about recent system updates and will also be able to ask questions, give feedback, and engage in cross-district collaboration regarding the product. Incorporating Technology Into RtI
Please join us on February 3, 2012  from 9:00am - 3:00pm at the Madison-Oneida Triplexus Building for the Incorporating Technology Into RtI Workshop. Response to Intervention is a multi-tier model that provides assistance for struggling learners to increasing levels of intensity. The model involves the use of research based instruction, universal screening, and progress monitoring, tiered-interventions and data-driven decision making. Effective 2012, all school districts in NYS will be required to have an RtI program in place for grades K-4 in the area of Reading. Many districts are currently implementing RtI at multiple grade levels. Technology can help districts with RtI assessment, data tracking and analysis and intervention. During this session, administrators, teachers, and technology coordinators will gain an awareness of how technology tools can assist them as they work to refine current RtI models. Lego Robotics: Creating Authentic STEM Learning Experiences
LEGO Robotics provides a medium to expose students to engineering design and computer programming. Now you can learn how to build and program LEGO robots during this full-day, hands-on workshop. During this workshop, teachers learn to use robotics to engage their students in real-world problem-solving and collaborative learning while learning math, science, and technology concepts at a concrete level. Attendees will receive a LEGO Mindstorms NXT Robotics kit and LEGO Mindstorms Education software. Districts are encouraged to send grades 4-12 teachers to this session. SMART 2.0 Middle & High School Level Workshop
SMART Notebook offers a variety of ways to create engaging and interactive lessons. However, there are plenty of online interactive tools to support your classroom. In this session, you will discover useful Web 2.0 tools and explore a new and exciting way of interacting with information through your SMART Board. Gaming in Education Workshop
Video Games! When most people hear the term "gaming," they associate the concept with the stigma of an inactive, mindless waste of time. But there is a current movement that uses video games to support instructional initiatives. This workshop will talk about the different avenues video games can play within education as well as some of the specific areas where video games can be the most effective in supporting your current instructional initiatives. LEGO Robotics: Intermediate Training
For teachers who have already participated in “LEGO Robotics : Creating Authentic Learning Experiences”, this workshop will extend their knowledge of programming with the LEGO Mindstorms Education software package to include the use of switches, data wires, variables, and other more advanced aspects of the software. The workshop will also include an overview of the use of Vernier science probes with the LEGO Mindstorms kit. Districts are encouraged to send grade 4-12 teachers to this session.
  • Cost: $360 per registrant, if you need to purchase a LEGO Mindstorms NXT Robotics kit or FREE if you bring your own kit.
  • A registration form requiring Superintendent signature must be completed for this training. A BOCES adjustment to the RIC service contract will follow.

iPads for Administrators Workshop
Apple’s iPad is rapidly changing the way in which we access, interact with, and disseminate information. With time being so critical to a district administrator, the iPad can assist with a multitude of tasks that include email, building walkthroughs, student information system queries, new APPR requirements, and more. Please join us on February 9th, 2012  from 9:00am - 3:00pm at the Glenfield BOCES Howard G. Sackett Technical Center in the Conference Room as we explore how the iPad can provide you with applications necessary to carry out daily activities effectively and efficiently. iLife in the Classroom
This training will provide a comprehensive overview of the iLife Software Suite from Apple. Specifically, the training will focus on iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand and iDVD. Part of this session will be dedicated to making an instructional multimedia project to be incorporated into your curriculum. MacBooks will be provided, and participants are encouraged to bring along curriculum content to infuse into activities worked on during the workshop. STEM Gems: Cybertools to Enhance STEM Education Webinar
With recent government initiatives to increase STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education across America, this timely webinar series will give you a jump start with deploying cybertools to enhance STEM education in your classroom based on your content level. If you ask yourself, why STEM? STEM embraces rigor, relevance, and relationships, the 3 R’s for 21st century learners. Curriculum is driven by problem-solving, discovery, and exploratory learning, and these skills are required for today’s students to be tomorrow’s global leaders. We are offering two session, one for the elementary school level and one on the middle/high school level.
